Hi All

I have been searching through information on this site and I'm very impressed. However, I have not found (or I have overlooked) any information on repairing a flag on edge retainer.

I have moved into rented accommodation and the flag on edge retainer to the patio has moved and leaning outwards toward the lawn. (exactly as the image on the bottom of this page. - http://ext.pavingexpert.com/cgi-bin....3e6ba54 )

I have noticed the landlord has simply buried the slab afew inches without any sand or cement at the bottom or behind the slabs. I assume this is the reason it has moved?. Can anyone advise how I can go about fixing this issue?

I want to use existing slabs to keep the cost down (it's rented accommodation after all) but I am willing to buy any sand etc and don't mind with the labour element! I have my 1 1/2 yr old playing on the grass and it worries me to think it may give way.

Any instructions will be greatly appreciated.

sadly jon it needs ripping out and doing again properly

for a flag on edge to work you need at least 1/3 of the flag concreted underground

with proper concrete not just sand

so they all need to come out and a trench dug first of all

you put around 200 mm of leanmix in the bottom then set your flags with a mallet and line
once you are happy you haunch the back with slightly wetter stronger concrete

its hard to explain in type
