Hi All,

After reading this site last year, I had a sandstone patio laid. The tradesman used a type 1 base and a full bed.

However, just over a year later a large amount of the pointing has cracked and a number of the slabs are loose and sound hollow when tapped.

The slabs have only ever been hosed down and brushed.

Am I correct in thinking this points to a problem with the original job?

If so given that this was 13 months ago, am I within my rights to ask for it to be investigated and rectified?

Thanks,
Chris

hi chris
a patio should last at least 10 years with no issues
so yes you are within your rights morally

however 13 months on is the installer going to come back?

ask him nicely

cheers LLL

He's a good friends brother in-law, so will be obliged to sort it if that makes sense?

I just wanted to check that I was being reasonable?

I presume the correct course of action is to rake the pointing out, lift and re-bed the loose slabs and then re-point?

Chris
