I wouldn't go near traditional mortar re: staining, weather point 365 or VDW840+ or something similar for pointing all day long, regarding sealing roger Oakley is your man

Thanks that's what I was thinking
Going to lay on to normal mortar and make sure not to get any on the slabs
Where would I get these mortar replacements from?
And would it be best to seal first before pointing or after???

I wouldn't seal limestone, unless there was some over-riding reason to do so. The imported Kota stone is fairly resilient to the weather of Britain and Ireland and sealants either make them look plasticky or have almost no impact.
Loads of links on the main website for the resin and polymeric mortars

So you would leave it go then Tony as far as sealing is concerned ?
Was just thinking about sealing as we have a couple dogs who seem to crap where they want rather than on the grass as would want them too and sealing might have been easier to clean the slabs off after they have been + lock in the colour better for longer?

Ah well, it's the fade-to-grey stuff, so choose one of the better performers from the Curse of the Black Limestone page

Was thinking the romley colour seal as the wisse stuff gave it to much shine in your tests and the romley gave more of a natural look finish

Thanks Tony for a great site loads of great tip for doing everything involving all kinds of paving
I'm not a paver by trade but a digger driver so get involved in most stuff with paving and landscaping so from clearing ground to drains and hardcore I can do even setting out levels and concreteing but laying is not my thing
I've had my builder in laying the last couple of days and run him by the do's and don'ts with black limestone that I've learnt from here
I do know a guy that works for Brett he goes around to contractors to make sure they are doing it right to guaranty there work for the contractors that are on the Brett scheme

Has anyone heard of stonemarket fastpoint before or used it as it's coming up cheaper than the weather point 365 the guy says stonemarket is a sideline of Marshall???
