Hi All

We are laying a Marshalls slate patio and I wanted some advise regarding the best grout to use. The joints are a minimum of 5mm. Also is it worthwhile sealing the slate with something like Lithofin MN Stain stop?

All advise greatly appreciated.

It depends what colour you want. I have always thought that white grout looks very good slate. Also a light grey colour is good to provide less of a contrast. I would be thinking about using larsen or easipoint. Both are installed using a mortar gun. You could also go for sand & cement but make sure that you mix it well and very accurately (i.e measure out the sand/cement). I have always found that because slate is consistent in colour, any inconsistencies in the grout colour will really stand out.

Regarding sealing. Slate doesnt NEED to be sealed. Unless you want to enhance the colour
