Helo

I wanted to share some news with you all. London Stone are launching a contractor/designer profile on our website.

Our retail clients regularly ask us if we can recommend contractors and designers. We are also regularly asked by our trade clients if we can put leads their way. The contractor/designer profile is being launched to cater for this demand in a transparent way. Retail clients will be able to search by postcode to find up to 10 local contractors/designers

Features of the profile include

Free of charge and quick set up
Company name and contact info
Link to website and social media
Company description
Image gallery of completed projects
List of stone experience

There are also a number of benefits and incentives to the scheme

Participants in the scheme will receive an additional 5% discount on all orders placed (taking total trade discount to 10%)
Entry to a yearly competition
Access to our online portal where they can check stock, do quotes and place orders, 24/7

The scheme is open to anyone who is a practicing landscaper, garden designer or to anyone who installs or specifies stone and you don't need to be a London Stone client to get involved.

We are not promising the earth but if this scheme brings in one project a year then its well worth the half an hour or so that it takes to register your profile

If anyone would like to register for the scheme just send an email to info@londonstone.com and we will contact you with more information. Also if anybody has any questions on the scheme please don't hesitate to email or post the question here on the forum

Do you deliver countrywide or just south East.
We operate in South Wales.

They deliver to me in Edinburgh, which as far as most English companies are concerned is a completely different continent

You have to be careful to ensure potential customers understand the list is NOT thoroughly vetted.

If there was to be a problem with a job, the client can often make a claim against the 'recommender' on the grounds that they were following professional advice. If you look at a few of the non-vetted or cursorily-vetted schemes, you normally see a line in the tweeny-weeny print along the lines of "if it all goes tits-up, it's nowt to do with us".

And that's why I have been very wary about setting up such a scheme over all these years. I carry out vetting for one particular scheme and I know a thorough assessment can cost 600 quid in terms of time and travel. The membership fee is only around 400 quid! How can that make economic sense?

I know some of the manufacturer-sponsired schemes run at a slight loss, but this, they tell me, is often recouped through additional sales. As pavingexpert never has and never will sell owt, the possibility of recovering that sort of money is nil, so it doesn't happen.

I keep a contractor list but when asked to 'suggest' names, I make it blindingly clear that, unless I know them personally, these are suggestions and NOT recommendations. So far, over the last 17 years, that's been enough to keep me out of court!

The scheme is up and running. We have had hundreds of contractors and designers already register for the scheme. We have already got well over a hundred profiles live on the site and we are uploading new ones as quick as we can.

Here is a link to RA Pressure Washing

Here is a link to TDF Building Contractors

Tony, we could do with your company logo to complete your profile?

We have also made the scheme very visible on the home page of the website to try and get our retail clients/homeowners using the postcode search function.

I missed that one tony. If you've sent it I will find it and get it uploaded.

Roger, I will make that change.

We're going to be launching the next phase in about a month. Companies who have registered for the scheme will have a log in and will be able to check stock, do quotes, place orders and also be able to view all historical orders , invoices and delivery notes etc
