Rio cascade paving (stone market) laying advice

The gaffer (she) has picked some rio cascade slabs to lay to make a meandering path. The slabs are going to be laid with setts edging them, prob two or three rows depending on total width, plus, some setts being laid between, across line of travel.

Im going to have to bed everything individually and was hoping for some advice on best way to do it.

I understand it's prob best laid "as one" so all bedding and pointing binds together so it's all good and strong, but there's going to be some big jumps between bedding levels with slabs 35mm thick and setts at variable depths between 75mm and 100mm.

It's not a long path but I would like to get it done right.

Have read site and will dip sett bases in bucket sbr slurry before laying and will brush some onto underside of slabs for bit extra bond strength.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Oops, should of said my question is how best to deal with individual bedding when there can be big jump in bedding depth (70mm ??? )

lay the setts first to levels then infill with the slabs is the normal route

however as an enthusiastic DIYer it might be better to lay the slabs first then lay your setts to the slabs
this will avoid a lot of heartache especially on a winding path

a lot of setts sold now are only 38-50mm thick
make life a lot easier

Another tip would be to cut a lengnth of timber the width plus joint's of the slab and use that as a spacer if your laying the sets first and infilling after.

Will have a bash a slabs first, then setts method.

I assume a fairly dry bedding mix is way to go so paving can hold its own weight without it falling away at edges before setts are laid???

Have got the (reclaimed) setts already and unfortunately they're not in the 35mm to 50mm deep range LLL mentioned, I'd say 100mm is most common.

Have read on site bedding mortar shouldn't be any deeper than 50mm and once you get to bedding layer materials deeper you should go to concrete. By my estimation because of depth of setts (100mm +or-)the slabs (35mm) could end up on bedding 115mm deep, and setts on bedding 50mm deep.

If I'm laying slabs first would it be feasable to bed them on concrete and bed setts on mortar or is this getting a bit mental?

Hopefully be able to get some pictures up soon, sleepers/setts/slabs, just a small garden though!!!
