Hello, I'm putting 4 600x600x20 sandstone paving flags down in the garden as a path, on quite a bit of a slope (probably 1 in 4 ish). The flags will be set on their own (3" gap or so between them), the sub-base is down (100m compacted), but wanted to know the best bedding to put down, i.e. ratio of sand to cement., plus any other tips anyone may have

TIA

Bob

3 inch gaps? Why?

All the info you need on bedding is on the main site.

Gaps are purely for aesthetic reasons, flags will be surrounded by gravel.

What I was after was does the ratio need more cement than a 10:1, or is there anything else I need to consider for laying on a slope.

Cheers

I am wondering why someone with a tag like 'Bobthepaver ' should be asking questions on simple paving tasks ? As the boss said the main site is full of information. The cement content is only to bind the sand to stop it migrating so between 6/1 and 10/1 is adequate. At 3inch gaps be prepared for a lot of weeds etc:

I've never done any paving before in my life, sorry if my tag misled you pal.

Thanks for the advice.

i would add 100ml of SBR in the mix bob to aid adhesion

also try and use a line rather than a guess

so 10 shovels of grit sand,12.5kg of cement 5 litres of water and 100ml of sbr

or round about that

cheers LLL (the tea boy :-)
