hi all.

Ok, so we have a client who wants to look at using sandstone paving for a drive/patio at the rear of their property. Basically its the only outside space they have soso the cars are going to sit on it most of the time and it may be used for wining and dining on the rare days its sunny.

Area is 55 sq meters. Clearly we'll need a suitable base of type1 at 150mm min depth, so my question is what next? Laid to continuous mortar beds? Or concrete with a bonding layer? The sandstone in question would be uncalibrated so I'm expecting thickness to vary from 35 - 55 mm. Is this even a feasible idea or am I barking up the wrong tree?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated......

We have done a few, we lay the stone on 75/100mil of concrete, but the ballast is only 10ml pea gravel not the 20ml size. Never had a problem.

I think with a full concrete bed it would be ok.
I did one about 4 years ago for a fella and he has a merc ml parked on it with no problems.
Flags were uncalibrated.

I always say the surface course is only as good as the sub base.
