hello all

im new here and inexperienced. ive recently had a patio laid by a friend of a friend. used him on previous house and he did as good job. but im concerned about this one so can you guys help me.

the garden slopes towards the house. from front of house to very rear about 1m difference. so he laid flags towards house and put in aco drain butted to back wall . this was put in above the dpc. the level of the patio and internal kitchen floor are level but the French doors sit 2 bricks higher from previous owners choice (???). I did dig down and found 2 airbricks and the dpc but it was too much to put the patio in 150mm below. it would have been like sitting in a pit. but was assured the aco would prevent bridging but now im not so sure. the air bricks are covered now but was assured theres enough flow from other airbricks to not cause any probs in future.

spoke to an old timer in work who had similar probs with his sons house and he advised me get it corrected before damp sets in. the suggested removing aco and digging right down to the 150mm below dpc. this would be about 6 or 7 bricks deep by now. lining the wall with membrane. installing aco to be connected to rainwater gully around corner and filling with pea shingle and spraying 2 bricks above pea shingle with silicone solution. width would be about 150mm from wall

any of this make sense lads. please help

thanks in advance

why?
patios cannot be laid higher than DPC
in certain highly specified situations they can be laid level with DPC

and blocking airbricks is a cardinal sin

have you got a picture of this patio danman?
