Hi,
Just new guys so please be gentle!
OK I'm wanting to lay a patio area out the back where I'm going to build a brick BBQ on top of it. The ground is quite solid soil and the paving I'm using is heavy duty council type ones. Size is 60 x 60 x 5 cm each. My question is what type of foundations do I need to lay for this? BTW first time I've laid slabs!

ideally the BBQ would have its own concrete foundation 200mm deep by 150mm wide or just a pad depending on the size
the patio would then be cut around this
alternatively if you dig out and lay and wack 100mm of type 1 then lay the flags/slabs on 50mm of concrete then you could build off the patio
at your own risk of course
i did this at home 2 years ago and its still there

patio
remove topsoil and earth down 175mm from finished height
barrow in type 1 (mot) 100mm thick to levels and wack down with a wacker
lay flags/slabs on a 6:1 grit sand cement mix with water added to suit to levels
point patio
build BBQ

MOT Type 1 is the hard core you lay as a sub base for the paving

Hi, i would suggest a special concrete overlay like carvestone. Carvestone is currently in use because its durable, has an easy installation process and is very attractive. However, it costs a bit more compared to other materials like flagstone.

It smells of a professional plugger. An overlay, even one that *is* available over here, just isn't relevant to this thread.
I don't know why, but the web stats are showing a huge surge in traffic from the colonies.
