We have a tarmac drive which we would like to extend using gravel. We will be selling the house soon and so don't want to spend much money.
I have a load of old bricks and broken slabs that I want to use as sub-base. I have removed the old staked timber frames from the tarmac as there was a lot of vegetation and the timber was rotten after 12 years. Do I need to replace the timber with new gravel board timber edgings or can it just be left now? The tarmac will be extended using gravel over 25mm sharp sand over 4 inches of sub base material and the gravel will finish a couple of mm below the level of the tarmac. The gravel will be used for occasional vehicular standing. Any advice gratefully received.
