i'm going to be starting my patio soon (indian sandstone) and i need to dig out a 15' x 10' base and a footing for about 60' of small garden wall. there's no way i can get a micro digger round the back of my house. i don't fancy digging it out by hand and was thinking of using a kango/breaker with a spade attachment. i would prefer to buy a cheap second hand one rather than hire one so that i can take my time around work commitments.
do you think that a breaker like this (kango 637) would be adequate with a clay digging spade for a project of this size as i can get one cheap locally or anyone got any other ideas?

Erm, no.
Are you sure you can't get a micro digger in?

The £150 b and q breakers have more oomph than those things, and dave is right. You really need a jcb beaver and a spade to get through anything of substance. Micro digger can get through 700mm by the way

Don't know how to break this news to you but using that would still mean 'hand digging.' :;):
Are you breaking out an old concrete slab?

the tried and trusted darn souf fork method eh, oop norf we use a taper mouth shovel or a Newcastle draining spade for everything but I have always maintained that's where "MEN" come from

cheers guys. thanks for the advice. there's no way to get a digger up the side of the house or through it si it looks like i'm going to have to dig it out by hand, which i'm not looking forward to (being a southern softie). how deep do you think i need to dig out for a foot traffic only indian sandstone patio?
