Anyone out there experienced in pointing York stone steps ?
Replaced the retaining wall at the top of my garden and used sawn york stone steps for the staircase. Looks great. Trouble is the gap between the step and the wall. Gap varies from 3 to 8mm. Thought of all standard techniques sand/cement, pointing gun etc but none seem to be suitable because of the small gap. mastic would look crap. Is there a colour matched resin grout like anchor-fix sold in a cartridge which I could use in the mastic gun ? As this I think would be ideal.

I dont know much about resin products that go through the gun but there are some good quality gun injected mortar systems available. Try larsen or easipoint. Both brands have a Yorkstone colour option

personally i would use a 100 mm grinder and regulise the joints to 8-10mm
then use a gun point mortar as steve recommended larssen or easypoint
mask the stone up before pointing,especially on the verticals

Back from hols and back to work. Thanks for the feedback guys (I assume guys). Looked at those products you suggest before but never used them so unaware of their performance. The mortar gun nozzle is 12mm, to large. Could crimp it to suit but this would inhibit flow I think. Using the grinder is fraught with danger. One little slip and things will get messy. Did I mention that the steps are bull-nosed as well ? Masking with tape is a definite. One other thing is that there are 13 of them. That's a lot of masking. Thinking of swimming pool grout now as it can be mixed to a runny consistency. Eliminate the voids ! I'm gonna post some pics when the wife can find the camera, i-phone or whatever it is. Thank you.
