Can you get a roller into the back yard?

The roller will provide superior results, but it is handy to have the plate around as the roller won't be able to hit everything, esp around the house.

You laid tarmac before? Red is very expensive, wouldn't want to see it wasted!

...and red in small quantities is horrendously expensive!

Two options: if someone local is having red laid, get them to order a few tonnes extra for yourself, or, failing that, lay black and then coat it with summat like Watco Red Top to make it look as though it's red mac.
