Ok this may sound a bit draft but I have decided granite paving is going to be the best hard wearing paving for my patio.
I have had some samples and the surface finish is very coarse flamed finish. Is it possible to get granite slabs with a different less coarse finish. I realise they can't be smooth for slip resistance but the samples I have looked at are too coarse probably not great for children

There are loads of different colours of granites out there. The three most common ones are silver grey, mid grey and black. When I say most common, I mean quite widely available from numerous suppliers. Generally the silver grey colour has the most course grain when flamed. The darker colours IME are more fine grained.
You are right that granites cant be smooth. Because granite is so hard, applying any polish or hone will make the surface like glass.
Which colours have you looked at so far? There was a post about granite yesterday and i pointed the poster towards a company called CED stone. They are a competitor of mine but do have a good range of granite and I would definately advise getting in touch with them

Thanks for the reply Steve
I was actually looking at blue grey granite.
What are your opinions on blue grey is it any good or is it better to go for silver grey.

No quality issues with either product. The grain on the blue grey will be finer than the silver grey but not by much. I would base the decision on the colour you like the best
