Looking for a sawn sandstone which is going to be laid coursed 600x900's, which is going to give a clean contemporary look when down.(approx 40m2.) It will also be laid with a matching sett border.
Im hoping for a stone with minimal variation in the colour if anyone can suggest one?
Also i know sawn stone aint cheap, but I am probably looking at the lower end in terms of cost.
Lastly, I know London Stone get good reviews on here, so I will take a look at there site, but I could also do with some local options in Manchester/Cheshire if anyone knows of any?

we have just laid 52 m of sawn harvest from london stone in 600 by 600 and 600 by 400 size
I was very impressed with the packaging,not 1 flag chipped or broke and i only broke 2 with my trusty mallet
the stone was very true size wise in fact it is almost tile like its that regular
there was very little variation in colour
I am happy ,the client is happy so all good from here

I noticed your job on the other thread Tony, looks really well. The sett border does it for me.
Thanks for the info about packaging, a few damaged ones soon ads up on the old ££ when your buying expensive stone, so good to know.

Travis Perkins are Marshalls stockist for the Fairstone range of sawn paving (or they can order it in for you) you could also try Jewsons too

2nd Londonstone, did 72m2 of the sawn harvest, only a couple of slabs were broken in transit but that was going to Edinburgh. Didn't break any with mallet, they were well callibrated - cut better than the fairstone stuff I have laid.

As Mick says there is The Marshalls fairstone which can be ordered from any TP. I also know a company based up in Southport called granite house, or maybe give bridge st stone a try
Please, please beware of buying sawn paving cheap on the inernet. There is some real crap out there being passed off as sawn paving

Just returned from my holidays and seen this post. Thanks very much for the order by the way, its greatly appreciated.
Patio looks absolutely smashing. Its not by chance that the packaging is so good. We are continually improving it. Sawn paving can be susceptible to chipped corners so the packaagin is of huge importance. Also we have been using the same supplier for the harvest for at least 4 years so they understand our quality parameters.
Stuart, I remember that job up in Edinburgh. You been back to it at all?

There are a couple of internet companies who I wont name, that seemed too good to be true on there prices.
I was very dubious when they are offering fossil mint at £28 per m2 including vat and deliverey.
I would be really pi**ed off if a load of crates turned up and the product is awful!

Fossil mint can't be sawn six sides as its too soft. So to get over this the suppliers will calibrate the bottom and then polish the top flat. Problem with this method is that the top is never quite flat, unlike the harder materials which can be sawn six sides by the conventional method of the block saw.
I understand that you don't want too name names but if you pm me the companies I will give you an impartial opinion

Yeah, I was back last week. Metal fence post I put in had come out, turns out customer had decided to put a 7ft high solid cedar gate in against all my recommendations
I was limited in how deep I could put the post in because of the messy pipework the builders put in when he got extension done and, he didn't want me securing it to the wall with brackets because it would affect the harling and he didn't want me putting a brace across the top for aesthetic reasons. Advised him to go with standard 6ft high gate with gaps between slats to let wind flow.
Had to go back last week to put fence post back in, attach it to wall in 3 places,weld a brace between the 2 posts and repair the block paving around the post :laugh:
Went back a couple of times prior to that to lay more slabs out the back, some pcc grey slabs for sticking a shed on. Did some crazy paving for his son too.
Patio still looking great.
