Black limetone fertiliser staining - Removal of fertiliser staining

Someone recently came to treat our lawn with a fertilizer and has splashed it all around the perimeter of our patio and on a route between the lawn and the outside tap. This has resulted in the slabs having rust coloured patches. I have tried power washing and light cleaners but nothing has an affect. Any assistance with this would be appreciated as the paving has only been down 18 months.

Any ides on what could help take out this discolouration?

You're going to have a hell of a time sorting this one out.

DO NOT use any acid on it.

Removing stains

Roger from R & A pressure washing will probably be able to tell you what will work best.

Any chance you could post a photo on here or email me a photo of the stains, they can be reduced and might even be able to get them all out pending on the damage.

I have a client with *exactly* the same scenario. He has claimed against the "Lawn Improvement Specialist's" insurance and the only viable fix is a complete replacement. As Roger has pointed out previuously, the fix for rust stains is acid, and acid on many patio products is a total disaster.

We looked at using sand-blasting, which certainly removed the staining but the client wasn't happy with the way it changed the surface character of the flagstones, so, in the end, the insurance co are (albeit reluctantly) paying out for a whole new patio and access path.

Would lifothin bero not work? I have used it for rust stains on sandstone, just a thought.

Bero is Phosphoric Acid, so not suitable for limestone
