After discovering a yorkshire flag floor under a black hard tar suface in my kitchen, we decided to dig it all up, insulate underneath and re-lay. looks amazing.
My wife says she wants a surface we can easily sweep and easy to keep clean, now having too messy kids.
She says she seen stone floors varnished and a smooth surface.I am not so sure about a shinny varnished floor-slippy,scratching or maybe getting dull on walkways.
Any idears will be greatfull - matt or satin finish or gloss if we have to.
Also I have black tar strips on some of the flags i would like to remove before sealing - come from the black liquid/hard flooring which was over the top.
Thanks in advance
Jeff

To remove the black staining, you probably need something like paint stripper.
As for sealing, there's so many products to choose from, but when it comes to reclaimed yorkstone used internally, some of the best-looking jobs I've seen have relied on GolvPolish, which is a wax. It's worked into the stone where it then enhances the natural colouring and protects it against most of the common household spills. The only drawback is that it needs regular re-waxing - some homeowners reckon every 8-10 weeks, some say 6 months or so .... I suppose it depoends on hos the room is used.

If you give this company a call Tiling Logistics 0121 705 5333 and speak to Kevin Martin, he will have something to remove the "tar" and advise on sealing etc. Just let him know I said to call. They deal with internal flooring, where we only deal with exteriors.
