Hi folks! Hope we're all well :)
My Mum and Dad are looking for a way to improve their patio without ripping it up and relaying it. Their patio was laid on a dry mix about 8 years ago which has pretty much washed away now, the pointing has almost all come loose and flaked away too.
They aren't planning on staying in the house too much longer (maybe a year or two) so they are reluctant to spend lots of money getting it all done from scratch. The stone is really heavily stained with algae so I've given them some cleaner for this and I was going to sort out some pointing compound for them but if the bedding has washed away as my Dad says then this will just disappear under the slabs.
Anybody have any ideas or am I clutching at straws?

Photos would help to see how bad the damage is.

Sounds like Slurry jointing would be your best bet but it depends on how bad the slabs are, if they're rocking or not, how level they are.

joking aside becky it sounds fecked
there are chemicals that will sort the algae but if the bedding has washed away then up she comes
trying to bodge it *just for a year or two*
wont do them any favours when they come to sell the house
sorry to bear the bad tidings

Thanks for the advice guys, that's what I thought. I guess I was just hoping there would be some magic solution since it's Ma and Pa and I fear that there could be a murder if my Mum has to endure another of my Dad's DIY projects! :P My Dad can turn his hand to most things - he pretty much re-built our entire house with my boyfriend last year - but when it's his own house he tends to let it drag on a bit!
LLL - I would ask Ste but he's up to his neck in nappies and bottles with my beautiful new niece!! :D
