Is it necessary to use SBR both in the mortar mix and as a bond bridge slurry? Could I get away with just the bond bridge?

I'm worried about its effect of reducing the working time of the mortar which, for a novice, might not help me. Though I do see the benefit the bond bridge will offer in ensuring a sound bed.

If I do add it to the mortar, the mix ratio states 2.5-5l per 25kgs cement. Does that mean per sand/cement mix, or per amount of cement added to the mix. The former means I'll need gallons of the stuff?!

Thanks!

i just put about 100ml in per mix with the water
so far that has worked good for me especially on steps and overhangs

2.5L is way over the top. As LLL says a much smaller amount does the job.
