Hi,

We have a courtyard garden that has been pathed with tiled rather badly.

A couple of questions:
1. How can I clean the slabs so they all look neat, tidy and the same colour? Currently they are marked and look dirty.
2. How can I relay loose ones? 3:1 sharp sand and cement and the back butter them to lay them down?
3. When do you grout in between the tiles with?

I've also managed to find the barcode on one of the slabs and with a bit of searching the internet I've have found that it's these:

Hi Chris

1. You should clean the slabs with hot soapy water and a stiff broom :;): Only joking a jetwash will bring them back as good as new.

2. When laying the slabs back down use a 5 -1 mix of sharp sand and cement semi dry. No need to butter the backs of the slabs

3. for pointing use a 4-1 mix of building sand semi dry

To expand on what Steve said, if any slabs on a free edge are loose make the mix a bit wetter and or add some SBR to it to aid adhesion.

Thanks for that advice guys.

Can you just clarify what Carberry means by:

1. Slabs that are on a free edge?
2. Add in some SBR?
3. Is this on the bed I lay to place the slabs or is it the joints you mean?

I'm a bit unsure what you mean.
