I am just about to start paving a 30 metre squared area in my garden over existing grass. Can anyone tell me how deep I need to be with my bedding? Do I need to lay ballast and then sharp sand on top of that? Should I also use a whacking plate? Don't know what slabs I will use yet, probably 450mm.
I am thinking of using a moist mix too. Any advice would really be appreciated as we've got a little one on the way and I need to get it right!!

Take some time to read the site, all the required information is there.

Can't say for sure how deep you need to go, it depends on ground conditions but at a minimum you will want 75mm for subbase, 30mm for bedding layer and whatever the thickness of your slab is.

Use type 1 for your sub base. You need to use a whacking plate, go over it at least 8 times, once in each direction.

I would go 6inches below finished height. I would also advise laying terram under the type 1
