Hello Folks

I new to this so please be gentle, I am laying slabs in my back garden , 600 x 600 slabs over an area of 35meters squared, I went to building supplier today and they advised me that I only need a sand cement screed with a mortar bed for slabs, but when I read different pages on this site it talks about type 1 and so on , can someone please put me right , the area is only being use for sitting on chairs and a BBQ area not heavy duty stuff on it at all , so can someone please tell me what I need to do , soil is good drainage , thanks

Do you want to take the advice from a world renowned paving expert website or some bloke who got a job in a builders merchant who probably sold newspapers in his last job? Cmon!

Do it once and do it right, this site will show you the right way

Sounds like they are the sort of slabs that could be laid on a screed but Screed or no screed, you must have an MOT subase. You can buy MOT from any builders merchant for £40 ish + VAT per bag.

The info on this site is spot on and user friendly. It's best to spend a bit of time reading the pages on the main site and get your head around what needs to be done, then come back and ask any questions to clarify

use the calculator to work out how much Sub base you need, remembering that bulk bags are normally around 800kg. budget for a whacker plate too, only need it for a day.
