I am looking at buying paving slabs from Borderstone that are reconstituted - they have arrived at the suppliers but they have marks on them which look like rain drops. The supplier says this is the salt from the concrete and is usual, it looks unsightly. Is this correct, and if so, can someone recommend something else to buy (not too expensive) in a cotswold buff colour. I have someone coming to lay the patio on 17 July so time is short. Many thanks from a novice.

Seriously you could buy decent natural sandstone for the same price or cheaper than bradstone/ borderstone stuff.
Why have the imitation when the real thing is cheaper and will last for a long long time.
The borderstone stuff drains of all its colour after 15 years and needs replacing. Which particular product where you keen on?

Borderstone reconstituted slabs in cotswold buff - page 61 of their 2012 catalogue. I don't really know where to go to buy patio slabs. Is that correct about the staining thou?

It's the release oil from the mould who is laying your patio they should know a supplier if not don't use him be warned

Cookie is right you should beware of a contractor who can not easily source a variety of paving options.
How much were you told they cost? I often find garden centres and the like sell borderstone stuff for bonkers prices, its already dear to start with but can be very dear from places like that.
Be careful of suppliers who will not clearly tell you a metre squared price of a particular paving flag as sometimes they try to hide the expense in terminology such as
'Patio pack for only 199' then you find a pack only has 6 sq metres in it making the paving an eye watering 33 quid per metre.
This is done partially to stop less savy homeowners from easily comparing prices.

We are currently posting loads of stone on ebay. It's all brand new. The reason its going cheap is that we have changed our sizes from 560 series to 600 series and we have lots of surplus 560 series. Final auction price is usualy £8-£10 per m2. Check it out on ebay, there are about 5 lots on as we speak and we are posting a new lot every day for the next few weeks.
