Looking for a spot of advice.....

Going to be laying 20 m2 of riven Indian sandstone as a patio and am in a quandary whether I need a hardcore sub-base or just individual bedding of 50mm? At the minute the plan is to bed onto very sandy soil, consolidated with a whacker, but will this suffice? I'd be gutted if it shifted over time. I've read and been advised for and against but would like something definitive......

I know the obvious solution is swallow it and get the hardcore down, but is it really necessary?????

Yes, lay a geotextile groundsheet (terram), lay base then proceed. Do it properly!

what have you taken out? if anything, have you a good quantity of bricks slabs, old concrete left over from anything. one of the guys on here does crusher hire and is local to you meaning at about £150 a day it could be good value?
