my first post so please be gentle lol.. i have recently moved into a new house and find myself needing more car parking space, i have a lawn which is crap full of moss etc and it measures 3m x 7m approx i am considering laying gravel on this and need a bit of advice, i have trawled this site and find its great ,but still not sure what i will need to do. i am aware of the base etc but not sure which type of gravel to use having heard so many differing views on what to use, the rest of the drive is already block paved and the edges of the lawn have concrete edging . my questions are mainly regarding the type of sub base and size of shingle/gravel to use. sorry to repeat what many have asked alreasy but i get differing answers on every site i go.,.lol just as anpother spanner in the works i have got several hardscapers coming to give me quotes for is doing in block paves as well..lol
thanks in advance

you need to dig off 150mm of grass/earth,then use a geo textile, followed by 150 mm of MOT stone<wackered> then 50 mm of 20 mm shingle <raked>
cheers

Do you really think gravel is a good idea? It will spill out over onto the blocks - I see it all too often.

21m2 - got a mate with a mini-digger to scoop off the 150mm?

cheers guys just had the guy from paving 4 u out to price it up, he says 1800 quid to block it. he says he will have to go down 300mm and even then it may need more depending on what they find ,the grass is boggy atm due to the amount of rain we have had . i would do it my self but need it doing quickly and work gets in the way a bit lol. i have the same reservations about gravel spillage too but cost is a big factor for us as we have just spent bucket loads doing up the inside..
