Hi,

We are considering having our patio done in Bundi sand stone as we like the colour.

How does this compare durability wise to the likes of Raj Green. I've done a search on the forum but can't find any info on it at all.

Hi Mark

I have never heard of a sandstone called Bundi Sandstone. Bundi is a region in the state of Rajasthan where the majority of Indian Sandstone is quarried.

I dont think it will be any new kind of stone, there are many different names for what are the same types of stone. If you could send me a link to the product you are buying I will be able to give you a fair assesment of the stone

I had a good look mark and could only find suppliers in india
it looks a bit like "desert sand" sandstone
but as steve says you would be better going someplace local and looking at what you are going to buy
transport might cost a few quid from india for 1 crate :;):

Made a few enquiries about Bundi Sandstone. Its more commonly known as camel dust. Its not something we have ever supplied but it should not be too hard to find a supplier in the UK.

Its a very hard stone as most of the Rajsathan sandstones are and in terms od durability is easily on a par with raj green and the likes

From my creaking memory, wasn't Camel only a teeny bit more resilient than the truly awful Fossil Mint? I have a voice in my head telling me that one of the bigger distribuitors imported a load of it 10 years or so back and had nothing but trouble with it.

I checked with one of my Indian suppliers and he reckons its right up there with kandla grey (which is bullet proof)and this guy is the oracle when it comes to Indian Stone.

You should get a faq or something up with an indicator of how hard the different types of stone available for paving are Steve, or ranking them or something.

thing is raj bloggs can dig up talcum stone and call it 'ardasiron mint
as steve has said, and it is very true
go and look at stone in a yard local to you
touch it and feel the texture
pictures and words can tell a thousand lies
if bundi was any good why isnt anyone stocking it in the UK?

You cant hold everyhting in stock. There are that many different types of Indian Sandstone available, suppliers have got to draw the line somewhere. Bundi is imported by a few people but is more commonly known as camel dust.

yes but there is not much point being a niche importer then sitting on stock for years
My mother in laws floor looks fantastic in those elite gold limestone tiles Steve (will take picture when i remember) but obviously they weren't to everyone's taste
I kinda wonder where the OP found the picture because i cannot find a single Uk supplier selling them as *bundi*
