Paving a driveway, would you use plasticiser in the 'wet mix' or not.

Indian sandstone to be laid over 50mm compacted granular layer over 150mm compacted mot type 1.

No good is that method on a driveway, flags need laying in a minimum of 100mm mass concrete preferably with a bond bridge, or the power steering and traffic movments will just ruin it in no time.

Whats a 50mm compacted granular layer?

I have laid a 150mm compacted layer of mot type 1 and then a further 50mm of compacted stonedust. I was going to then lay sandstone paving on a 75-100mm of wetmix mortar but i do not want to compromise the strength of the mortar by using plasticiser (is plasticiser a good idea or will it weken the mix?)

Ah get you now, i wouldnt use plasticiser, no point, if anything id use SBR. Id use a concrete mix using 10mm ballast though not just straight sharp sand.

Thanks Ganger, sounds good to me. Just a thought, what about a stonedust & cement based 'mortar'

I wouldnt know pal, but ive had some "barrow mix" concrete before and im sure they used some crushed lime shite for the aggregate and the strength was comparable to lets say soggy digestive biscuits - crap!
