Hi,

I had my patio laid a year ago (Raj Green Indian sandstone paving) by my builder. At my request, it was laid with a dry mix of sand and cement, as I prefer the less grey colour of the mix to that of a purer cement mix.

Anyway, I've just pressure washed the patio and it looks brand new again, but in the process much of the sand/cement grout has washed away (used Nilfisk 130b pressure washer with patio head attachment).

I'm going to ask my builder to return to re-grout, but do you have recommendations for a stronger (pressure washer resistant) mix, that is more of a neutral sand-like colour. And preferably still easy to lay - can I dry mix again?

Also, I imagine I should remove all the existing grout that I can? If so, with my pressure washer again or with a grinder, then washer? Do I risk damaging my stone if I use the very powerful nozzle of the pressure washer?

Also, note that my sandstone is highly absorbent and liable to stain, hence my reservation to wet mix.

So, in summary, recommendations of materials, mixes, brands and recipes for success most welcome!

you can't expect a dry mix to go off, it's doomed to failure. Should listen to your contractor. I'm glad you aren't blaming him. Have you read the index?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. In no way, a question of my contractors work - his workmanship is top notch. However, he doesn't know of how to attain a neutral colour, so has asked me to research it on his behalf. Otherwise, it will be very cement grey.

I would recommend "easipoint " sandstone as a good buff colour
polymerics can be good ,but their ability to withstand pressure washing is questionable
