Hi all

Was wondering if I could get some advice on a patio which we are mid way through installing.

We have dug out the area, checked the diagonals etc. I got half a tonne of Type 1 aggregate (all trailer could carry) with the intentions of going back next day and getting another half a tonne. The problem was the aggregate had very little dust in it and was mainly 10-50mm bits of stone and looked like it was uncompactable with nothing to hold it togther.

I took some advice from another supplier and got half a tonne of finer aggregate. A third of which was stone dust and 2 thirds was 14mm to dust. We have spread this over the top of the Type 1 and are hiring a compactor tomorrow for 24 hours so would like to get it right first time.

Questions:

Do I need to hose it down before compacting?
Do I need to dig in the dust or will it work its way in with the vibrations?

Here is a link to some photos.

Thanks in advance

No need to wet although it may keep dust down a little.

The dust will make it's way down in to the voids, it'll be fine.
