We have decided to have our drive tarmaced but can it be laid during the winter with frosts around or am I better waiting to have it done in the new year?

When is the best time of year to lay tarmac?

Thanks for reading & anyone who replies.

You'll want to lay it in the spring, after the risk of hard frosts -- the hot mixture hits the icy ground and begins to set immediately, resulting in an utter mess of a drive.

Best time of the year to lay tarmac would be late summer - in readiness for the cold winter to 'season' the surface before the next summer heat is upon us.

Worst weather to lay tarmac is in wind and rain, like today!

Aslong as you have top quality material at top temperature and a good crew who know exactly what to do and when, you can lay in most weathers.........

don't laugh, boys -- before you go to bed, slather your hands with moisturiser, then wear thin cotton gloves (or socks!) over your hands overnight...when you wake up, a lot of the cracking and tightness will have healed....

that's an old girls' trick, but it works a treat!

if they're really bad, use an antibiotic creme -- it will help heal all the painful little cracks and cuts and scratches and keep them from becoming any more sore.

At this rate we'll end up like a load of ladyboys with perfectly manicured nails and soft skin!

Anyway - look after your hands.....
