Just laid new paving, curious about the mortar

Patio flagstones (slabs), concrete flags, stone flags including yorkstone and imported flagstones.

I have just laid a new patio and have a general query - i used a semi dry mix of sharp sand and cement, around 8:1 it worked out i think. The flags are man made riven, are they actually supposed to suck to the mortar bed or do they simply just lay on top?

I have noticed a couple move slightly when walked over (you can hear a slight crunch) they were fine when laid but now a couple do it - is this common?

I havent jointed them yet, could this be why?

It would have been preferable to use a srtonger wetter more stick mix but it's too late now so best just rebed the rockers and point it all. The flags are thick enough to get away with it
