I've just had the tarmac base coat laid on my drive. However, my next door neighbour who shares a section of the drive with me is having some dry stone walling done and he has not done his base coat yet. When his stone is delivered my base coat gets covered in mud etc.. Now his contrcators will clean up after them and we have agreed this (they are also using boards where necessary). My question is will my top coat bond to the base coat if the base coat gets really messed up?

Depends upon the timescale between basecoat and surface course 'application'.

If it is a while or the surface gets very messy, an application of tack coat emulsion will ensure a good bond.

Sounds as though the neighbour is being very sensible to me!

Thanks for that. It is going to be some time yet, and I think my contractors always intended to use a coat of tack emulsion.

I just wasn't sure if I needed to clean up the muddy section regularly, or to just do it before the top coat is ready to go down.

Aslong as the surface to be "laid on" is clean and dry prior to tack coat application, no problems!
