Hello - I've got a couple of granite slabs which are damaged and need pulling out. No problem there. The problem is that for whatever reason Stonemarket 600x600 slabs appear to now be a mm or two larger than they were a couple of years ago when my patio was laid and you've guessed it, the new slabs won't go into the old hole.
So the question is, how to cut a sliver of perhaps 2mm off a granite slab? I'm thinking table saw and perhaps even a tiler's saw? The best thing would be for me to buy the slabs and take them to someone who'd cut them - it seems a bit OTT to hire equipment for a couple of slabs. Any ideas appreciated.

I'd set a small angle iron guide clamp it up and cut it with my stihl saw and an experienced hand. Alternatively do you have a freeedge or a edge with more play so you could move the old slab with more leway then lay the new ones where the old ones were. I take it they are butt jointed?

Thanks very much. Butt jointed indeed, something I've since discovered that is frowned upon!

not at all, given the correct slab. They can look very nice. I have just laid some 450's (200) all butt jointed.
back to your query, you need a special diamond blade to cut granite. very expensive. A hire shop will do the saw, but the blade will be the tricky one.
Good luck

That's what I would do to Rab, they shouldn't charge much, you could even try a worktop manufacturer, their both set up for neat accurate cutting of stone. The guy we use, recently, charged me £5.00 per hole for drilling 10x100mm holes in some sandstone Paving, to take lights, very cheap! Take some cash, I wouldn't think you'd be paying much just to do that, £10.00 at the most.

Headstones - what a genius idea. I also have a worktop manufacturer close to me. Thank you chaps.
