Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone had an opinion on the following. I am looking to lay 70sq m of indian flags in a random layout.

I would probably look to to pay for the design service on this website as this would seem to give me one less thing to think about when laying them!. But i'm unsure which sizes in a pack are most suitable. I have read on the site that they should be 'modular', do either of these 'pack' configurations tend to
be better for random layouts? or is it best to supply the layout then be advised which is better

The 2 pack options i have been given are as follows

Option 1
5 mixed sizes in a crate. Product thickness = 25 to 40mm. In a crate, you get: 7@ 840mm x 560mm / 5@ 700mm x 560mm / 10@ 560mm x 560mm / 7@ 420mm x 560mm and 13@ 280mm x 560mm covering an approx area of 12.6m2 when laid using an approx 10mm joint.

Option 2

13 No. 900 x 600mm
13 No. 600 x 600mm
13 No. 600 x 290mm
9 No. 290 x 290mm

Fantastic site BTW very informative

some odd and awkward sizes in that first pack the second would certainly be much easier to lay.

pack 2 definitely easier
lot less cutting
the gaffers design service is well worth it, I have used it on many occasions without fail

option 2 is by far and away the best option of the two,
if you use anymore than 4 sizes it tends to look like crazy paving

Definately the second pack. The four sizes in the second pack are all modular which makes installation a lot easier.

If you use 5 sizes you have to either:

spend a lot more time planning the pattern off site

or

Spend a lot more time on site messing around during installation.

We have started to discontinue the 560x420 size for this exact reason. I remember back in the day when some companies use to sell 9 sizes. Imagine trying to lay that after a hangover :(

Pack two would be much easier.

Just follow the two golden rules for random layouts.

Four corners should never meet and dont have a running joint of more than 3m.
