Hi, can anyone help? This summer (July 2010) I paid to have a new patio laid in Marshalls Saxon, Colour the new Mocha!
initially we were delighted with our choice and all looked well, but after just six weeks, we and any visitors, started to notice that the colour was fading rapidly, and by September, we were looking at what can only be described as light grey, with the odd patchy Mocha slabs. I contacted Marshalls who emailed me back asking for Contractor, Merchants and invoice details?
I also contatced the Contractor who laid them who came to view them immediatley and agreed that they were fading at a rather alarming rate of knots. He then arranged for the Merchant to call and view, who also agreed there was a fault.
we were assured that Marshalls were a genuine company who would sort this issue out, and more or less told us that they would be replaced F.O.C.
Now after several weeks of waiting, after being led to believe that Marshalls were looking into why this had occurered so that they could send out a new batch that would not fade, i have been told today, by the contractor that Marshalls have sent him a letter (which I have seen) which in a nut shell states that they will not be doing anything, and that the fault is efflorescence! which its clearly not.
I know what efflorecence is, and this is not powdering on the surface, this is all of the colour fading or washing out?
I am very dissapointed that no one from Marshalls has been to view, and that Marshalls do not seem interested.
does anyone out there have any similar issues or advice what to do? :(

Thanks for your swift reply MSH, I did request that someone from Marshalls came to view them in my original email to them as did the Contactor who laid them (who has been brilliant in all this by the way!) but to no avail, so I hope you are right and someone pick this up. I have emailed them again today stating my displeasure, but I was hoping that someone on this forum may have had a similar experience! :(

I laid some Saxon Mocha in a paving display for a local BM over here and it has also rapidly faded and very uniformly to. Definately wasn't efflourence.

Man made slabs will eventually fade, but in the space of six weeks ???
Maybe the credit crunch means cheaper dyes :D
For the price that these retail at, im sure you couldve picked up some lovely natural stone that will never fade.
Good luck

I have heard that only the surface in pre fab paving is dyed which did not make any sense to me.

Anyone know if this is true or not?

Thanks ispaving! its not very encouraging is it, that after six weeks they have lost all of their colour. Alot of people may think I am am exagerating, but unfortunatley not!

Edited by Tony McC - Mark, don't post peoples email addresses. It leads to them being spammed and it's not good form.

we had some of marshalls indian stone the other month and quite a few of them were bent and twisted out of shape and the builder we were working for wouldn't accept them so marshalls sent out a crate of each as replacements and then fetched back what was left, hope they sort out your problem too

the bigger the company the more likelyhood is that you will get odd problems
its how those problems get dealt with that matters
on the whole i find marshalls stuff very good,
and i am sure it will be dealt with accordingly

have you asked your contractor to chase the matter up or the merchants that supplied them? I know its not there fault but they might be able to get some more answers for you. As you say ignoring customers is no way to run a business if there is a problem with there product then it needs sorting fingers crossed you get some answers asap
