I am getting 8 sq metres of a pattern imprinted patio.I came in from work and found that they had dug out and flattened out sub base. On inspection they have not dug deep enough, sub base is max 1 inch thick, in some parts less than 1/2 inch.
What do you advise that I say when I ring back?

It should be 4" of compacted hardcore, ideally MOT Type One. They should then lay a 4" slab of concrete on this which they then imprint. They should also cap the hardcore with a layter of ballast or sharp sand and then lay a vapour barrier on the sand beneath the concrete. The idea is to make a sound uniform base so the slab of concrete can move. If the base is uneven it means the slab can't mpve so it will most likely crack.
