can somone help i intend to lay a stone circle patio area all i know is you need to dig out and lay quarry waste and compact and then sharp sand to lay parts onto?
main question is how deep and how do i ensure that all the stones are level across the board apart from using laong spirit level?
can somone give me a idiots guide A to Z?

Dig out approx 130 to 150mm+ the thickness of the slabs. Lay 100mm of hardcore / MOT whatever they call it where you are. Give that a good whack. Then put down 10:1 semidry mix of sharp / grit / concrete sand , again different locations have different names for it, to between 30 and 50mm. Then start laying. To get a level across the whole thing, use a legnth of true timber - if its not straight, it wont give you the correct reading on the bead.

Thanks for that..
I take it it goes MOT compact then sharp sand to lay Patio on but get your true piece of timber and screed off the top prior to laying stones on it?
What about the level of the stones when you lay them say i have layed the inner first circle all level like and then lay the next outer cicle how do i ensure that the whole patio area does not end up on a slope aprt from using a large sprit level??
or is their a knack??
thats what bothers me the most
also could i use a dry mix of sand and cement brushed over the finsihed patio to fill gaps and how is this done brush over and wet off??..and the use pointing up tool to push in to gaps?
