Hi, I need to get my drive done. It's about 25m long going up towards the house (i.e. house is at the top and drive goes down to road). The slope is about 1:6. I was just going to use tarmac, but a builder who came out to give me a quote for a dry stone wall suggested that with that slope tarmac would be very dangerous (slippy) in winter. The firms who have quoted me for tarmac never raised this as an issue. Just wondered if it would be okay with tarmac. We do get a lot of rain over here and if it freezes I had just assumed I'd have to put grit or salt on the drive.

I wouldn't have thought that tarmack was that bad.

Have a look here for some alternatives
