I have read the article on the site regarding the Celtic Knot paving feature, which advises laying on a wet mix due to the small size of some of the paving.
http://www.pavingexpert.com/celtic_01.htm#thepaving

I am laying the Stonemarket Fieldland circle, a similar patio kit, the smallest piece of which is a diamond shape measuring 700 x 230 mm at the widest points.

I would prefer to lay on a dry course if possible, but am not sure whether it would be suitable for this particular size of paving, given the problems in the above article.

Any advice appreciated.

i would do as the experts did and use a wetter than normal mix
maybe also use a bond bridge (sbr/cement slurry painted on the back of each unit) to achieve adhesion
also a good quality epoxy mortar romex/gftk will help hold it all together
