Mil's tarmac drive

Hi All, first post, forum was recommended to me as a font of all knowledge!

Hope someone can help me!

My mother-in-law is looking to re-tarmac her drive. It's roughly 10m long and thin / standard width (you can reverse a car down but carefully!). She's had a quote today but is worried as she has no idea whether it will be likely to cost 500 or 5000 pounds.

Could anybody give me any guidance or a ball-park figure? She's in rural North Wales so not too many people she can get in for comparative quotes, but I wouldn't want to see her stung!

The price depends on what remedial work there is to be done before resurfacing the drive. No point in laying a nice surface is if there is little or no sub-base (stone) below, etc.

As a guide, for surfacing, allow around £21/sq metre. Not sure on your location so there might be variations!

Thanks for this- I hadn't thought about the sub-base- brain wasn't functioning too well last night!

The drive is currently concrete, would this need to come up and would this add a lot to the cost?

Thanks for the price guide, really good information, any thoughts anyone has re the concrete and whether this would alter the price a lot?

Ideally the concrete would need to come up - I don't like laying tarmac on top of concrete but sometimes it is just unavoidable, only in low traffic areas.

Breaking up and carting away concrete can be a time consuming and tedious job. Usually costly!
