Hello,
I purchased about 70m2 of 20mm honed sandstone paving slabs from Marshalls (well, tiles strictly). They are really stunning, but I have some concerns.

They are very smooth, they have about the same surface smoothness as A4 printer paper. I'm worried they are too smooth and will be a deathtrap when wet, but at the same time I'm thinking- they're made of sand- cant be that bad??

Anyone got any experience with honed/polished sandstone?

They are for large patio and exterior stairs (9 steps, 400mm deep, 150mm rise per step).

What about anti-slip additive in a matte sealer? (not too keen on wet look).

Any advice would be great, Marshalls are nice, but their advice was 'try it and see' and 'dont do it if your in doubt'.

just laid a patio in them very very nice flags 35mm so not tiles, well worth the money they are a little bit slippy at moment when wet but thats because of the romex once thats worn off should be fine

Hi.

Yes there is a system of a matt coating with a clear aggregate.

Clean the surface
Dry it
Apply one coat of Ronadeck PU Coating Matt
Whilst wet cast in Ronadeck SpheriAgg clear anti-slip aggregate
Allow to cure
Apply a second coat of Ronadeck PU Coating Matt
Allow to cure

The sawn sandstone will be fine as long as you keep it clean.

Thanks for the replies. Excellent advice all round.

I laid a couple of the biggest slabs on a tempoory sharp sand base, hosed them with water and done some real world testing. I basically walked on them, then tried to skid on them.

I ended up jumping about like a maniac, trying to skid. I'm very happy to report that there were no problems whatsoever (thank goodness!).

I'll keep them clean until summer, then I'll seriously look into sealing them (more to keep algae away). I'll deffo be using matte PU resin and most likely some glass bead additive.
