Hi,
After my recent bad experience with Geofix i am now going to attempt pointing with mortar! My paving is silver grey so ideally i need a grey mortar. I'm not sure how to achieve this? Do they sell pre-mixed pointing mortar or do i need to add dye myself. I just want a stoney grey colour as apposed to buff.
cheers

Oh, forgot to add - i have edged the paving with a single line of block paving with gaps of around 8-10mm between. Can i point this with the same mortar, does it have to be the same consistancy?
thanks in advance

Don't let anyone persuade you that colouring mortar or even pointing itself is any easier than blindfolded brain surgery. It's a total nightmare. Too wet and it will stain everything in sight, too dry and the colour wont spread through and the mortar will be impossible to work. Oh and if it rains before the mortar is completely set (or there is unbound dye remaining on the surface) you're knackered as well.
I'm currently trying to think of a way to make my sett/slate pointing possible as I've had very little success with the methods outlined on the main site

Will romex easy stain the surface as the geofix did though? Also can it be used to joint the smaller gaps between block paving?
Cheers

PS the 'staining' isn't staining. It's just a smear of the resin in the compound. A couple of weeks of the elements and it will be gone.
PPS Romex doesn't stain.

Hi if you have any trouble you can always get the higher spec GftK mortars ovrnight to almost anywhere in the UK from Dave or Gary at www.nccstreetscape.co.uk or on 01257 266696 you could consider the polymeric mortar vdw 840 or the higher performance vdw 850 dependent on the traffic / use you intend.
