Think I may have made a mistake in ordering a full size radius kit with squaring off pieces. 2 edges of the area will be free edges onto pebbled areas. Since the squaring off pieces taper down to quite small sizes I'm not sure that the suggestions on the free edging pages of this website will work to hold those pieces in place - i.e. using a class II mortar to bond to the edge flags. I should have got the smaller squared off radius kit and then filled to the required area with a random pattern of rectangular flags. Alas, they are all delivered and a pain in the **** to return and replace. I am using stonemarket trustone calibrated to 22mm thickness so that limits the amount of haunching I could use.

What do you think my options are to support these pieces at a free edge?

Yor best bet would be to lay the whole area on a 6-1 plasticised wet mortar. You should have no problems with adhesion if you do it like this. The method you proposed is more suitable to larger flags and larger areas. Cheers.
