I'm currently doing a small/medium patio (8x3m). If I'm honest its less planned that it is evolving 
which is probably not a great statement, but it is honest !
I have purchased Stoneflair Purestone Sandstone natural stone slabs.
I have fixed edges round all 4 edges - 1 edge is the house, the 3 other edges I have already laid blocks in concrete with haunched edges.
Within the patio area I have already dug out, laid some type 1 and plate compacted.
I'm currently laying a course of sharp sand which I plan to compact by hand (tamp down) and screed to a depth of about 17mm (slabs are apparently calibrated at 22m thick)
From what I've read on this site, it sounds like I can get away with simply laying the slabs straight down on the sand - but the Stoneflair site recommends that they are laid on a full mortar bed
What should I do?
