Dear Tony

We had a call from a garage recently to go and clean a TV Presenters driveway. They had lent him a car to test and the car developed a fault and power steering fluid leaked onto his tarmac driveway. The drive is about 5 years old and the tarmac looks a light grey in colour. The oil had been on the driveway for about 2 weeks in the recent hot weather. We used a foaming oil remover to lift the oil off the surface of the tarmac and then pressure cleaned off with water. We subsequently had a phone call the next day saying that the area that we treated is now worse and lighter in colour. Do you have any suggestions as to how we can resolve this problem.

Regards

David

Pressure cleaning was the wrong thing to do, you will have washed the stone from the affected area.

Replacement is the only viable option.

Check out this web-site www.nu-phalt.com

I visited their stand at this years SED show and have also met up with them since

Very impressed with the Tarmac Patch repair technique - basically it is a machine that heats up a section of tarmac to the required temp. you keep the existing tarmac and add some more if needed and also add some additives/binders then wacker. This technique seals the joint as well. Recycled tarmac !

Also they provide a Back to Black tarmac covering. This not only paints the tarmac black but has special additives that re-vitalises the tarmac.

Speak to a guy called Mark Jones

David - Pitch your TV-presenter client, a weekly Channel 4 in-depth, half-hour, paving/driveway home improvement prog - I bet it's in the pipeline already.....
