Compacting bedding layer? - Compacting dry bound bedding layer?

Patio flagstones (slabs), concrete flags, stone flags including yorkstone and imported flagstones.

Hi and thank you for a brilliant and helpful site...but I couldn't find an answer to my question:
I'm laying flags in the garden that will have some heavy use from my kids playing basketball so i need to get the bedding layer right.

I've laid a dtp1 sub-base and compacted.
I want to use a bound bedding layer.

Do I need to compact this? Or do i screed the loose mix and lay flags?

Thanks in advance.

Good to see the site back (I assume it wasn't just me)
Cheers,
Mark

yes you can "tread" the bedding layer then loosen the top 20/30 ml before laying.
