Setts and cobbles, tarmac, asphalt, resin systems, concrete whether it's plain, patterned or stencilled, gravels, etc.

Hi all

Firstly, I'm a new user - nice to read such a thorough range of postings on this site.

Secondly, I currently know nothing about paving - hence my reason here. I hope to educate myself through this site so that when I do speak to the contractors/professionals etc, I know what I am asking for and what they are telling me

Thirdly, my reason here is that I have an access road (old farm track) which is 200m in length and about 3m width. It's slopes uphill to get to the house, but there are flat areas at the bottom. It's these areas that currently suffer from weathering, ie potholes etc. The current construction of the access road is old/loose fill - looks like there might have been a better road there a long time ago, but has broken down.

For the past two years I have ordered road fill / loose stone (around 40 tonnes) and then hired a small machine to scrape out the bad areas, refill them and then whack it back down.. but after a while, the water sits and frost gets in, breaking it up and back to the pot holes that only 4x4's can confortably get past!

The access road will be used by pedestrians, cars, tractors, wagons (deliveries of parcels and oil etc to house) so needs to be very tough.

I am planning on keeping a record of my findings on a bit of free webspace if anyone is interested. I'll also be back here quite often I expect to ask you guys/gals questions and keep everyone updated.

My first task is to take some snapshots, upload them to some free space and spend an afternoon reading this site!

Sorry for the long post - got carried away :)
