I am going to lay a patio and paths and am torn between blue/black slate and a grey tumbled sandstone. The prices are similar. Will the slate be more (dangerously) slippery when wet than the sandstone. There will be a fair amount of cutting and I am not sure if losing the tumbled edge on the sandstone when cutting will ruin the appearance. Any help please

It's pure personal choice. I'm not sure which late you're considering, but there'll be little to choose between slate and sandstone in terms of slip resistance for a patio. Tumbled edges can be replicated on sawn paving by a process referred to as 'fettling', which is described on the main site.

Which do you prefer? Go with that one!

Dress the cut edge with a chipping hammer after cutting :)
