Hi, can anyone help with the following.
I have an old concrete drive which is on two levels, the lower level is a continuation but about 50mm lower. Can anyone advise the best and cheapest way of raising this so all on one level. can i put down MOT type 1 on top of the existing concrete and tamp, before Bitmacing the lot, or can the granite sub base only be used on top of a soil or earth surface. (Lower level foot traffic only and 4mx6m) thinking perhaps water will ingress thru Bitmac and sub base and settle on concrete underneath, or cause channeling or movement of Granite sub base cos it cant bind to existing concrete underneath. If not would a 50mm concrete pour be ok to raise level.
Next, the existing concrete drive has some cracks running along it (5-10mm wide) with weeds, after clearing, is it necessary to fill these with granolithic mortar or can the bitmac be laid over the top with a tack coat.
If a tack coat is used, is it essential to etch clean the existing concrete or just wash down and sweep.
Finally, worried about dpc being only 150mm above existing concrete, is it ok for bitmac wearing coat to be applied 50mm thick up to wall of house leaving dpc only 100mm above bitmac, or will i need to dig out the drive to lower level.
:O Thanks in advance. ps. fantastic website.
